Increasing Page Interaction

Getting shares and likes can help boost your page and get you an even wider audience. One technique that works well is to post quotes or humor on your page. Make sure it is relevant to the page topic or it can be counterproductive. Injecting a little humor never hurts but unless you page is all about comedy make sure you don’t overdo it. Posting quotes from famous people that are relevant to your page can also help but shouldn’t be the only thing you post. Keeping a good mix of content is the key to boosting yout engagement.

Use Trending Topics

With the new algorithms on Facebook, you need to curate your content even more carefully. One way to increase the reach of your posts is to talk about trending topics. Look on Facebooks news feed to see what topics are trending. Don’t force it but if you see a topic that is relevant to your business or you can make a connection to, use it. Once in a while you can go off topic about a trending article but I don’t recommend it. Make it a habit of studying the trending topics and grabbing the ones that make a connection.

Facebook Changes Algorithm…..Again!

It’s that time again to watch everyone panic as Facebook changes their algorithm again. Should you be worried? Not if you have been following me and putting the practices I teach into place. Good solid content marketing is going to benefit from these changes and shouldn’t see much if any drop in engagement. If you have been practicing spam tactics and click bait you are going to see the floor fall out from under you, but not all is lost. It is never too late to practice good marketing. Here is the lowdown on the new Facebook changes.

The new algorithm is based on the new set of Facebook Values. If your content matches those values it will be seen more. If it does not you will be hidden from most peoples view. Here are the values they are promoting

  • Family and Friends come first: The main objective of the News Feed is to connect people with their friends and family. So posts from friends and family are prioritized. After those posts, Facebook found that people want their feed to inform and entertain them.
  • A platform for all ideas: Facebook welcomes all ideas while making sure that everyone feels and is safe. They aim to deliver stories that each individual wants to see the most, based on their actions and feedback.
  • Authentic communications: Facebook prioritizes genuine stories over misleading, sensational, and spammy ones.
  • You control your experience: Individuals know themselves best. So Facebook creates features (such as unfollow and see first) to let people customize their Facebook experience.

Here is a handy guide to get you through the strangeness of the new feed. Feel free to share it and keep it close as you plan out your Facebook strategy.

Twitter Increases Character Count to 280!

If you follow social media the big story is that Twitter increased the character count to 280, double what it used to be. So as marketers how do we use that? I have put together an infographic talking about how I intend to use the extra space without alienating my Twitter base by droning on. If it works correctly they probably won’t even notice my count went up, just that my content is clearer. Try not to fill up the 280 characters. We did fine with 140 for this long so keep it on the shorter end if you can.

How to Optimize your Twitter Profile

Your Twitter profile is like your elevator pitch to those meeting you on Twitter for the first time. It tells people a little about you and hopefully makes them interested in learning more or at least listening to what you have to say on Twitter. Here are 4 tips to help you get the most out of the profile on Twitter and maybe a few more followers.

Twitter Fast Growth vs Slow Growth Campaigns

I see a lot of marketers scrambling to get as many Twitter followers as possible as quickly as they can. A large emphasis is placed on how many thousands of followers they can get so they can be seen as an influencer or so they can monetize their Twitter account faster. Of course, I see a lot of those marketers ending up in “Twitter Jail” as well and it doesn’t surprise me. The techniques used to get massive followers in a short time are shady at best and in a lot of cases outright dishonest which Twitter does its best to stop. I shake my head, make sure I am not following such accounts and I move on. My personal Twitter is coming up on the 1,000 follower mark and I am very proud of that number since it represents hard work and a well run slow growth campaign. The biggest difference between the slow and fast methods is the audience engagement. Fast growth only cares about the numbers slow growth cares about the people. I have close to 1,000 people following me that I didn’t have to chase and beg for them to be a part of my Twitter experience, they want to hear what I have to say. Original content delivered on a schedule about relevant topics. That is the secret formula for a slow growth Twitter campaign. Except it really isn’t a secret. It’s hard work over a long period of time that delivers results. If you decide the numbers are important and you just MUST have as many followers as possible as soon as possible then I am not the right coach for you but if you want followers that listen, let’s talk.

LinkedIn as a Tool

There is no one step solution to your Social Media Marketing needs but LinkedIn can be a force multiplier to your efforts especially if you are targeting other businesses. It should be a part of your strategy, not your entire strategy. Use it mostly for networking if your targets are consumers and not businesses. If you have content marketing as your primary strategy use LinkedIn as a way to gain credibility. LinkedIn is very versatile and businesses ignore it at their peril.
